Saturday 4th August

Princes Street is the main high street in Edinburgh, and the main marketing area for all festival shows. Walking down you will meet pirates, men in thongs, washer women, street performers, those really terrible human statues, children singing, and many harassed tourists with arms full of flyers. Edfringe offers 20 min slots on small stages to companies wishing to promote their shows, and we have approx 9 slots booked, the first of which was scheduled for Saturday. We took along our battery powered CD player, and as amplification is prohibited we had to sing our cabaret songs at the tops of our poor strained voices (practically a cappella, as the volume on the CD player was drowned out by all the noise). This was particularly demoralizing. We got plenty of attention but unfortunately people now assume that The Spoils is an Andrew Sisters extravaganza, and we are sick of explaining it’s not another bloody musical. The market is currently saturated, Chav! It’s a Musical Innit, Orgasm the Musical, two Tony Blair Musicals, Jihad the Musical, High School Musical….the list is exhaustive.
